Studio Art (BFA and minor) The mission of the HBU Department of Art and the goal of the art faculty is to nurture and encourage students of all levels of experience in finding their visual voices and developing their own visual language.

MFA in Studio Art The MFA program brings together the practice and history of art and design, as well as the theoretical and historical study of visual culture in its wider context. Faculty mentor students as they develop their potential through intensive discourse, investigation of new techniques and materials, and the production of challenging work.

Artists and designers produce visual expressions of culture that investigate and redefine our world. The Department of Art offers a minor sequence* in Studio Art for students who are majoring in other departments. The objective of this program is to allow UB students from diverse academic programs to engage in the study and making of art. The students will get an overview of critical and aesthetic issues in art today and gain a technical skill set in the medium of their choice.

Students minoring in studio art may choose from a broad selection of courses including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, digital media, special topics, mixed media, and photography.
